Headteacher's Update 17th April

Welcome back parents and carers,

I can’t quite believe we've ended our first week of Term 5. And what a brilliant week it has been!

Our New Age Kurling team of 4 children came third place in their competition on Wednesday - a brilliant result, our Year 5 children were waved off on their residential with smiles and a real sense of excitement, ready to embrace new challenges and make lasting memories, and our full governing board met where a wide range of items were discussed, along  with making plans for a future meeting to delve deeper into the Government’s recent White Paper and the SEND reforms.  There are significant changes ahead for all schools; optimism and collaboration will be key as we navigate the coming years and their new demands.

Cast your minds back to the Smartphone-Free Survey, where we gathered your views on becoming a smartphone free school.  Since then, we have been doing a great deal of work behind the scenes. Our Governors are fully championing this mission, alongside 93% of our parent body, in supporting CKJS to become a smartphone-free school.

With this in mind, we have concluded that we in support of the notion that CKJS will become a smartphone-free school for children. To make this happen, we will be updating our Online Safety and Mobile Phone Policy, with the changes planned to take effect from September 2026. At that point, children will no longer be able to bring smartphones to school. This will not affect the current Year 6 cohort.

We hope this early announcement gives parents and carers plenty of time to consider alternatives, such as GPS tags or non-smartphones, if needed. We will share further details over the summer, along with the updated policy.

Inclusion at CKJS

Thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to share their thoughts on our school’s Padlet - I am overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness of what has been written.  There is still time to contribute, and we would greatly appreciate hearing from all members of our parent body, so please do take a moment to click the link below and record your response.

We are so excited for our Popup Bookstore hosted by The Bookwagon on Monday 20th April.

The popup event will begin at 3:10pm, and will be held in our school hall. You can access the hall through the external hall doors, situated next to our swimming pool.

Just a quick reminder that card payment is preferred. There will also be a 25% discount on all sales, and the school will receive commission on any purchases made.

We look forward to seeing you there  - don’t miss your chance to get stuck into a good book!

That just leaves me to say, have a wonderful weekend when it arrives - I'm off to Devon with family and friends.

See you all next week.

Warmest wishes

Mrs. Beccy Andrews
