Headteacher's Update 24th April

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you've had a wonderful week.  It has been so lovely to finally experience some gorgeous spring weather this week. The sunshine has really lifted the spirits of our school community.

We began our week on Monday, in my opinion, in the best way possible, with year group assemblies about reading led by two incredible children’s book enthusiasts, Bronnie and Bob from The Bookwagon.

This knowledgeable and inspiring duo truly captivated our children. As they shared a range of wonderful stories - including some fantastic titles that were completely new even to me - you could have heard a pin drop; every child was utterly hooked. We were even lucky enough to hear a book that hasn’t yet been released in the shops yet.

A huge thank you to our families who supported this event after school with the pop-up store. Bronnie and Bob were genuinely blown away by the children’s love of reading, and they also commented on what a wonderfully special community we have, where reading is so clearly valued by all.

See a couple of photos below.

Monday also saw a group of children being part of a swimming team heading off the Cheltenham College to take part in the Discovery Swimming Gala.  They all completed a range of challenges and races, competing against other schools. The team came back to school beaming after finishing in third overall earning a bronze medal - we are so proud of you all.  What a start to our week!

On Wednesday, our Tag Rugby players headed off to a festival with other Cheltenham schools. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves, played incredible rugby, and returned to school smiling, with a bronze medal for their group in recognition of their superb sportsmanship. Demonstrating such respect and teamwork is an incredibly important skill, both on and off the field.

A huge congratulations to our school's Wildlife Quiz Team, who won their first heat in the Cheltenham competition. Their teamwork was outstanding, and they represented our school brilliantly.  They set off on another nature adventure yesterday to Richard Pates to compete in their second heat. Good luck to you all. They meet as a team every week, led by Miss Bromley, to learn and discover more about nature, nurturing their curiosity and deepening their understanding of the world around them.

In other news, Year 3 and Year 4 had their PSHE curriculum enriched through interactive SCARF workshops this week. The focus was on children’s physical health and well-being. This immersive experience allowed pupils to engage in practical activities, deepen their understanding, and explore ways to make positive, healthy choices in their everyday lives.

There has been so much success to celebrate this week, and we are incredibly proud of all our children. Their hard work and determination have been evident across the whole school community.

A reminder that our PTA are hosting a Clothes Swap Event on Thursday 30th April. Please bring along good-quality, pre-loved clothing that you no longer need, so it can be reused and given a new lease of life by someone else.  We hope you can join us for this event.

That just leaves me to say, have a gorgeous weekend everyone.

Warmest Wishes,

Mrs. Beccy Andrews
